For the fiscal year ended Jan. 31, comp sales in the United States were up 4.1%, which included a 3.9% increase at the Wal-Mart Stores division and a 5.3% gain at Sam's Club.

The company reported a net income for the fourth quarter of $2.72 billion, up 8.5% over year-ago levels, which included income from discontinued operations. Sales were $74.5 billion, up 12.2%. For the year, Wal-Mart reported a net income of $9.1 billion, up 13.8%, on sales of $256.3 billion, up 11.6%.

"It was a good year, not a great year," said Scott, noting that the company's international division had an especially strong performance.
