NORTH MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. -- The roof of this Waldbaum's supermarket collapsed here while an undetermined number of shoppers and employees were inside. Michael Rourke, senior vice president of communications and corporate affairs for parent company A&P, said 12 people were injured during the collapse but none of the injuries was serious. An investigation is being conducted to determine the exact cause of the collapse, but Rourke said it was "certainly weather-related" because of the heavy snows that fell on the Northeast that week. A&P has not yet determined whether the store will be re-opened. Any perishable products that could be salvaged from the store were donated to local soup kitchens and food banks, Rourke said.
