Since the Bake-Off in San Diego, Pillsbury Chief Executive Officer Paul Walsh has taken on a new responsibility as chairman of the Grocery Manufacturers of America Productivity Council.
"The idea is to share what's practical and see how we can leverage learning. Clearly there is a competitive element in this, so if the company feels that we have the edge on something, that may not be forthcoming. "But there are so many things that we all need to benefit from."
Efficient Consumer Response is a good example of that, he says, describing universal product codes and scannability as issues that are not just Pillsbury issues, but industry issues. "One of the things I'm looking forward to in this role is getting closer to my counterparts in the Food Marketing Institute," he says.
