COLOGNE, Germany -- Anuga, the giant global food trade show held every other year, has gained a reputation for new product introduction.

At the last Anuga in 1995, About 22% of frozen products were new, primarily attributed to innovations in meal solutions and frozen poultry. Milk and dairy products was another very innovative sector at the 1995 event, with about 16% of products displayed representing new entries.

This year about 6,000 suppliers from around 100 countries will present their products in Anuga's sprawling network of buildings and showfloors. The forum is geared to both the supermarket industry and the catering trade.

By segmenting according to product sector, the show attempts to provide buyers a global view of each category. Among Anuga's product ranges are:

General food, ingredients, delicatessen and health food.

Seafood.

Frozen food and ice cream.

Milk and dairy products.

Bread and baked goods.

Beverages.

Fresh fruits and vegetables, including exotic fruits.

Though Anuga has been known as a supermarket/grocery show, it also has a strong following in the hotel, restaurant and catering sectors. In addition to the full range of food and beverage for large-scale and system catering, Anuga offers new kitchen technology, vending and services.
