AUSTIN, Texas -- Whole Foods Market here said it plans to open its first freestanding "lifestyle" store in the West Hollywood suburb of Los Angeles on Oct. 28.

The West Hollywood store will open in a 2,000-square-foot building adjacent to an existing Whole Foods Market under the banner, Whole Foods Market Lifestyle. The company said the store will feature the Edun clothing line from Bono, of the group U2; a variety of organic apparel, jeans, shirts and sweaters; hemp products from Romania; organic sheets and towels; bamboo chairs; recycled glass dinnerware; gravity neutral shoes; handbags made from old phone books and billboards; and yoga mats made from thermal plastic elastomer foam, plus the chain's first organic salon for hair and facial care.
The company said the store itself was built using sustainable and environmentally friendly paint and materials for floors, shelves and walls; hemp curtains for the dressing rooms; and reclaimed and reused furniture as displays and for sale. The store is scheduled to open Oct. 28.
"The development and incorporation of Whole Foods Market Lifestyle reflects the company's founding values into other aspects of life, including a commitment to sustainable agriculture, expanding the market for organic products and utilizing wise environmental practices," said Marci Frumkin, market director for the company's Southern Pacific region.
