BOULDER, Colo. -- Acquisitions and new stores lifted sales at Wild Oats Markets here in the third quarter and 39 weeks ended Sept. 28.
reflect the natural food chain's acquisition of Alfalfa's Market here, which has 11 stores, plus results from a full year of sales at five stores opened in 1995 and five new and three acquired stores in the 39-week period, Wild Oats said. Same-store sales for Wild Oats units were up 0.5% in the quarter but flat in the 39 weeks, due to cannibalization from new stores.
Wild Oats reported a $5.4 million net loss in the quarter and a $4.9 million net loss in the 39 weeks due to acquisition-related costs and store closings.
