BOULDER, Colo. -- Wild Oats Markets here said sales in the 13-week fourth quarter ended Dec. 27 increased 34% to $84.7 million, compared with $63.4 million in the year-ago quarter. Sales for fiscal year 1997 were $311.1 million, an increase of 62% over $192.5 million reported in fiscal 1996.

Net income for the year was $7 million, compared with a loss of $4.5 million in 1996.
Last month, the company acquired Sunshine Grocery, a natural-food supermarket in Nashville, Tenn. The company recently identified new store sites in Las Vegas; Memphis, Tenn.; Dallas; Miami; and Eugene, Ore.
