Wegmans to Sell Liquor in Cherry Hill, N.J., Store

ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Wegmans Food Markets here plans to add liquor to the beverage selection of its Cherry Hill, N.J., store, according to a published report. The retailer currently sells liquor in three of its seven New Jersey locations, including its Manalapan, Bridgewater and Princeton stores. Although New Jersey state law prohibits a person or corporation from owning more than two off-premise liquor licenses, many retailers get around the rule by purchasing licenses in the names of franchise owners or relatives, according to the report. It related that Wegman’s son-in-law, Jason Wehle, paid $500,000 for the retail liquor license in October.
