Whole Foods Market Opens Bowery Beer Room

NEW YORK — Whole Foods Market’s Bowery location began filling growlers of six local beers sold on tap here for at-home consumption Friday. Two-hundred different types of bottled beer are also merchandised in the Whole Foods Market Bowery Beer Room. “We’re frothy, heady, hoppy, refreshing and delicious,” reads the retailer’s website. “From pilsner and weisse to lambic and porter, we’ve got your beer needs covered.” Whole Foods charges a “small fee” for its refillable half-gallon glass growlers that are used for transporting the beverages home. Ranging in price from $7.99 to $17.99 per growler are Brooklyn Brewery Blanche de Brooklyn; Sixpoint Brownstone Ale; Kelso of Brooklyn Hop Lager; Captain Lawrence Liquid Gold; Ommegang Ommegeddon and Bluepoint No Apologies Double IPA. “We don’t have a license that allows for on-the-premise consumption, but we’ve been very busy since we opened,” a Whole Foods associate told SN. The retailer may soon begin offering beer-and-food pairing classes, according to its website.
