Diamond Expands Dog Food Recall

META, Mo. — Diamond Pet Foods has expanded its dry dog food recall to include batches of nine brands of dry pet food formulas manufactured between Dec. 9, 2011, and April 7, 2012, due to potential salmonella contamination.

In April, Diamond initiated three voluntary recalls of Diamond manufactured dry dog food. Though none of the additional products have tested positive for salmonella, the company is pulling them as a precaution.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report that 14 individuals have been infected with salmonella from handling tainted dog food. Among them 5 were hospitalized. No deaths have been reported.

Recalled brands include Costco's Kirkland Signature, Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover’s Soul, Country Value, Diamond, Diamond Naturals, Premium Edge, Professional, 4Health and Taste of the Wild. Diamond shut down its Gaston, S.C., plant, where the food was manufactured, on April 7.
