NAPLES, N.Y. -- Wine sold in a single-serve plastic bottle with a complementary wine glass was one of the more influential new product introductions for 2006, according to Datamonitor‘s Productscan Online database of new products. Hardy‘s Shuttles Wine features one 187-milliliter single-serve plastic bottle of wine and an acrylic wine glass, which also acts as the bottle's seal. Offered in varieties like chardonnay and shiraz, Hardy‘s Shuttles are sold in Australia and the United Kingdom. The wine is one of 10 new worldwide product introductions with the potential to change or shape the consumer packaged goods market, according to Datamonitor. Other items that made the Top 10: Chiquita Fresh & Ready Bananas packaged in a patented FreshPak plastic sealed tray, which lets in the right amount of air to slow the ripening process naturally, keeping bananas fresh for up to four days longer than usual; Grapple Sweet Apples, which look like apples but have the flavor of Concord grapes; and Sipahh Milk Flavouring Straws, which are filled with beads that contain strawberry, chocolate, banana and other flavoring. As the milk is sipped through the straw, the beads dissolve to flavor the milk.
