New Organic Fair Trade Teas Hit Market

Equal Exchange announced an initiative to bring fair-trade-certified teas from small-scale farms and cooperatives to the United States.

WEST BRIDGEWATER, Mass. — Equal Exchange here announced an initiative to bring fair-trade-certified teas from small-scale farms and cooperatives to the United States. The effort is launching with a variety of loose-leaf and bagged teas, which are also organic. Sources are small-scale operations in India, Sri Lanka and South Africa, according to officials. There will be four limited-edition, loose-leaf teas, including Darjeeling First Flush and Darjeeling Second Flush teas; as well as three bagged teas. The launch was undertaken to highlight that small farmers and their cooperatives have often been overlooked in the tea category, officials said.
