FAIRFIELD, Ohio — Jungle Jim's International Market expects more than 3,000 attendees at its first-ever international wine festival in October.

Running from 6 to 9 p.m. Oct. 3 and 4, the event will feature more than 400 wines from countries around the world, including Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, France, Italy and Germany, as well as domestics from California, Oregon and Washington.

Traditional wines, as well as ports, sparkling wine and champagne, will be among the featured selections at the event, to be held in Jungle Jim's 10,500-square-foot Oscar event center. Cheese, hot appetizers and other food will be served.

General admission tickets are $50 in advance, $55 at the door. VIP tickets, costing $100 in advance or $110 at the door, will get participants into a special tasting room featuring Champagne, as well as Bordeaux and other high-end wines.

Along with tasting, participants can purchase the wine by the bottle or case. Every attendee will get a 2008 Jungle Jim's International Wine Festival commemorative wine glass.

Jungle Jim's has had wine tastings in the past, but never to this degree, according to beer and wine director Dave Schmerr. Typically, about 10 to 20 wines are poured for a group of about 200 people.

“Wine is such a hot commodity that we feel this festival-type atmosphere will be well received,” Schmerr told SN.
