At-Home Cooks Alter Eating to Save Money
SEATTLE — Consumers are altering their eating habits to cut down on at-home meal costs, according to an online survey conducted earlier this month by Allrecipes.com. Four in 10 (40%) respondents reported that they’ve stopped buying food items because of cost; 38% are serving smaller portions to make food last longer; 22% are skipping meals or have considered skipping meals to make sure their kids have enough food; and 46% say the U.S. government should be more active in regulating food prices. Searches for cost-efficient recipes are also on the rise. Allrecipe.com reports that home cooks looked for ways to make their own French toast, spaghetti sauce and pie crust.
