CHARLESTON, S.C. — Piggly Wiggly Carolina Co. here is conducting a search for the South’s best amateur cooks with its first Taste of the South Recipe Contest that kicked off yesterday. Now through Oct. 21, contestants can enter recipes in one of three categories: appetizers, salads and side dishes; main dishes; and desserts. Semi-finalists will compete in one of four regional rounds to be held in Charleston, Columbia, Savannah and Myrtle Beach on Nov. 17. Finalists selected from each of the four regions will convene in Charleston on Dec. 6 when Matt and Ted Lee, authors of The Lee Bros. Southern Cookbook, will name a grand prize winner. The prize package will include a set of All-Clad cookware valued at $1,600 and the winning recipe will be featured in Southern Living Magazine. Contest rules and entry forms may be obtained from one of 115 participating Piggly Wiggly stores or online at www.thepig.net. “From original recipes that feature local produce and seafood to dishes that highlight a Southerner’s flair for entertaining, Piggly Wiggly is encouraging entries that represent good food, good health and good times,” said the retailer in a statement.
