Reasor’s, Others Support Tornado Relief

TULSA, Okla. — Reasor’s is partnering with the Salvation Army to collect donations to help with disaster relief across central Oklahoma, one of several efforts by food retailers around the country to assist tornado victims there.

The chain is encouraging customers to text the word “Storm” to 80888 to donate $10. Reasor’s said it will match the first $10,000 donated. Also, all 17 Reasor’s locations throughout northeastern Oklahoma will begin collecting the most needed items, including brooms, mops, gloves, buckets, hand sanitizer, shovels and rakes.

“These recent tornadoes and severe storms that are sweeping through areas of Oklahoma have proven to be absolutely devastating and have caused a great deal of damage throughout our neighboring communities,” said Steve Lehto, executive vice president and chief operating officer. “I hope this effort will help provide some assistance to the residents who need support. Our hearts are broken and our prayers are with all the families affected by this tragedy.”

In addition, local retailer Homeland Stores said its stores would serve as collection points for customers seeking to make donations of needed items or funds.

Other retailers around the country also launched collection drives for disaster relief, including chains as far away as Price Chopper in New York and Acme Markets in Philadelphia. (See a sampling of their tweets below.)

Several retailers in the area, where 24 people were reported killed and damages were estimated at more than $1 billion, said they had lost power, and some reported minor damages.
