Nov. 4, 2013: Schools Embrace Local Foods

A large percentage of public school districts have some sort of involvement in farm to school activities, according to the Department of Agriculture’s first-ever Farm to School census. Across the country, schools are buying local foods for cafeterias, promoting produce consumption with edible gardens and organizing field trips to farms. The census includes
information from 8,800 public school districts on their 2011-2012 school year activities.
