Supervalu Latest to Eliminate Trans Fats

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Supervalu, the third-largest grocery retail company in the United States, yesterday announced that in-store delis at all of its Acme, Albertsons, bigg’s, Cub Foods, Farm Fresh, Hornbacher’s, Jewel-Osco, Lucky, Shaw’s, Shop ‘n Save and Shoppers Food & Pharmacy stores will complete a transition to trans fat-free cooking oils by Labor Day. Transitioning to trans fat-free cooking oils has become a major industry trend during the past 18 months as consumer concern about the negative health impact of trans fats has mounted, and cities including New York and Chicago have enacted bans on partially hydrogenated cooking oils in restaurants.
