Mi Pueblo Foods on Wednesday announced the appointment of Jose Aguayo as VP of human resources. In this role, Aguayo will oversee employee relations for Mi Pueblo's stores across Northern California and corporate office, while also developing training programs to ensure the chain's "colaboradores" have the tools to succeed in their roles.
Additionally, Aguayo will spearhead staffing and recruitment efforts at corporate and store levels, while working on benefit programs for more than 2,000 employees at the San Jose, Calif.-based Hispanic supermarket chain.
"Our people — our colaboradores — are our greatest asset, which is why it was extremely important for us to find someone with relevant experience, who also understands our corporate culture, values and vision,” Javier Ramirez, CEO and president of Mi Pueblo, said in a statement. "Jose possesses the leadership and management skills needed to improve our current structure, and lead us to become one of Northern California’s best workplaces.”
Aguayo previously spent more than a decade at El Super in Southern California, where he managed human resources duties for more than 5,000 employees across 46 stores and oversaw the development of training programs focused on customer service, sexual harassment, safety, and management. Additionally, he led hiring efforts and managed the company’s benefits, workers compensation and general liability programs.
Aguayo’s additional industry experience in HR management includes Venquest Hotel Group, and Disneyland Resorts. Aguayo has a master’s degree in business administration from Pepperdine University, and is bilingual in English and Spanish.
