AMSTERDAM — Ahold here said last week it has nominated Lodewijk Hijmans van den Bergh to its corporate executive board as chief corporate governance counsel. He succeeds Peter Wakkie, who Ahold previously said he planned to retire at the end of this year. Hijmans van den Bergh, who will join the company on Dec. 1, will be responsible for Ahold's legal, corporate governance and compliance functions, and will also oversee mergers and acquisitions as well as corporate responsibility. He is currently a partner at law firm De Brauw Blackstone Westbroek, also based here, where he specializes in corporate and securities law, with a particular emphasis on corporate finance and mergers and acquisitions, Ahold said.
BROADER LEAVES MICHAELS STORES
IRVING, Texas — Michaels Stores here said Shelley Broader, the former chief executive officer of Sweetbay Supermarkets in Tampa, Fla., is leaving the craft retailer as president and chief operating officer to pursue other opportunities. Broader was a longtime veteran of Sweetbay sister chain Hannaford Bros. before she was tapped to be the president of Kash n' Karry, which she converted to the Sweetbay banner. She left last year to work under former Michaels CEO Brian Cornell, a Safeway veteran, but he left Michaels earlier this year to join Sam's Club as CEO.
