Jewel-Osco, the Chicago-area division of Albertsons, said Tuesday it has named Doug Cygan VP of marketing and merchandising.
Cygan, who has been director of grocery since Albertsons acquired Jewel-Osco from Supervalu last year, was named interim VP, marketing and merchandising, in January, succeeding Ken Diehl, who left the company. No one has been named to succeed Cygan as director of grocery.
Cygan has been with Jewel-Osco since 1980, starting as a grocery clerk. He was subsequently a store director, category manager, director of marketing, VP of fresh food merchandising and VP, merchandising.
“Doug is Chicago-born and -bred, and he not only knows the business and communities we serve but he also understands what ‘the Jewel’ means to the heart of Chicago," Jewel-Osco president Shane Sampson said. "Doug has seen the company transition throughout the years as he learned the business from the bottom up, and we’re grateful to have such phenomenal talent to draw on.”
“Building our business and serving our guests is my passion," Cygan said, "and it’s my privilege to be part of the team who will shape Jewel-Osco for the future.”
