A&P TAPS O'BOYLE FOR EVP POST

MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P said it has named Tom O'Boyle to the position of executive vice president, an appointment it said completed a new management team under Sam Martin. O'Boyle will be responsible for leading the merchandising, marketing, and supply and logistics departments. O'Boyle most recently was president and senior vice president of food and drug for Sears, and prior to that he was the senior vice president of merchandising and marketing for Albertsons. He has also held management positions at Jewel Food Stores. “Tom is an expert merchant with a proven track record of aligning merchandising offers with exciting marketing programs to meet customers' needs,” Martin, A&P's chief executive officer, said in a statement. “His appointment completes my dynamic executive management team, which will lead our company's turnaround initiative.” Along with Martin, who was named CEO in July, A&P has added several top executives in recent weeks including Frederic Brace, chief administrative officer, and Carter Knox and Paul Hertz as executive vice presidents.

WALSH PROMOTED TO SVP AT FMI

ARLINGTON, Va. — Food Marketing Institute said it has promoted Patrick J. Walsh to senior vice president, industry relations, education and research. Walsh leads collaborative industry initiatives for FMI, including the FMI/GMA Trading Partner Alliance, and is responsible for the development of the FMI Private Brands Group and the Rapid Recall Exchange. “Pat has been instrumental in developing valuable programs for our members. The success of FMI's Midwinter Executive Conference and the Future Connect leadership conference are due in large part to Pat's dedication to ensure members find the content compelling and the experience worthwhile,” Leslie G. Sarasin, president and chief executive officer of FMI, said in a statement. Walsh has been with FMI for 11 years. Previously, he was vice president of industry collaboration and education. Prior to joining FMI, he was director of corporate electronic marketing at Safeway. He also served in a variety of sales, marketing and product management positions during a 17-year career at Kraft Foods.
