LOS ANGELES — The Marshall School of Business at the University of Southern California here said Friday it has named industry veteran Robert P. Hermanns as director of the Food Industry Management and Food Industry Executive programs, effective Nov. 2. He succeeds Tom Arnold, who retired last May.
Hermanns, who is a 1967 alumnus of the USC Food Industry Management Program, has spent the last two years as senior vice president and board member of Park City Group, a retail solution software company based in Park City, Utah.
He was president and chief executive officer of Associated Grocers, Seattle, from 2002 through 2005; chief operating officer for Weis Markets, Sunbury, Pa., from 2000 through 2002; and held a variety of management positions with American Stores Co. and its subsidaries from 1987 through 1997, including chief operating officer for procurement and logistics; senior executive vice president, retail; executive vice president and general manager for the Southern California division of Lucky Stores; and senior vice president, sales and marketing, for Lucky's Northern California division.
Between 1980 and 1987 he held senior management positions with Metro Cash and Carry, Red Owl Stores and Willard Bishop Consulting, Barrington, Ill., following 20 years with Jewel Food Stores, ultimately serving as grocery merchandising manager for its Chicago-area units.
Hermanns said he is excited to be joining USC “as I have personally seen how this program makes an impact on the future leaders in the food industry.”
