WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. — Gary Pfeil has been named president of Roche Bros. Supermarkets, the company here said. Pfeil has been with Roche Bros. since 1996 and was named vice president and general manager in 2004 with responsibility for much of the day-to-day decision-making and operation of Roche Bros., the retailer said. “Gary has worked tirelessly and with much heart to help bring Roche Bros. to our next level,” Ed Roche, chief operating officer and co-owner of the company, said in a statement. Ed Roche had formerly served as both president and COO; he remains COO. Roche Bros. operates 15 Roche Bros. Supermarkets and three Sudbury Farms in eastern Massachusetts.

DUNNHUMBYUSA NAMES AITKEN COO

CINCINNATI — DunnhumbyUSA, the data-analysis and loyalty-marketing firm based here, said it has named Stuart Aitken as its new chief operating officer to manage the company's U.S. business. Simon Hay, the chief executive officer of DunnhumbyUSA, is leaving to assume broader responsibilities with the company's London-based parent company, Dunnhumby said. Aitken most recently was chief marketing officer at retail craft chain Michael's Stores, and previously he held executive marketing positions with Safeway. DunnhumbyUSA is a joint venture between Cincinnati-based Kroger Co. and London-based Dunnhumby, and handles much of Kroger's loyalty marketing.

RICHARDS EXITS A&P AS SVP, SECRETARY

MONTVALE, N.J. — A&P here said Allan Richards, senior vice president, human resources, labor relations, legal services and secretary, will leave the company to pursue other opportunities. Richards joined A&P in 2004 and before that had been a consultant with MGS Consulting for a year. He was director of labor relations and employment law for Fleming Cos. from June 2000 to July 2003, according to Hoovers.com. A&P could not be reached for comment on a successor.

BI-LO PROMOTES FAULHABER TO VP-SALES

MAULDIN, S.C. — Bi-Lo here last week said it has promoted Kip Faulhaber to vice president of sales, effective immediately. He had been vice president of strategic initiatives. Faulhaber, who joined the privately owned retailer in April — shortly after the company filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy — will handle “all the strategic coordination of sales efforts for Bi-Lo,” the company said. Prior to joining Bi-Lo, Faulhaber served as vice president of Center Store merchandising for Minyard Foods in Dallas, and he previously worked in merchandising for Southern Family Markets in Birmingham, Ala., and as director of procurement at C&S Wholesale Grocers in Keene, N.H.

GIANT OF CARLISLE ELEVATES SHANK

CARLISLE, Pa. — Giant Food Stores here last week said it has promoted Chuck Shank to director of operations and merchandising for District 2, which includes stores in southern Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia. Shank will be responsible for the overall operations, merchandising and customer satisfaction of 11 stores. He most recently was grocery market manager. He is a 40-year veteran of the company.
