WELLESLEY HILLS, Mass. — Roche Bros. here said that Jay Roche, vice chairman and co-owner of the 18-store chain, has decided to leave the company to pursue other interests. His stake in the chain will be acquired by the two remaining co-owners, his cousins Ed and Rick Roche, a company spokeswoman told SN. In a letter to Roche Bros. employees, Jay said his decision to leave was driven by a “desire to try something new. Knowing firsthand the quality of the management team and the strength of our plan for the future, I know that Roche Bros. will continue to be a driving force in the industry.” Jay Roche is the son of Bud Roche, who founded the chain in 1952 with his bother, Pat, the father of Ed and Rick.

MOORE PROMOTED TO SR. VP AT C&S

KEENE, N.H. — C&S Wholesale Grocers here has promoted 16-year company veteran Tracy Moore to senior vice president of merchandising, supply chain and trade relations. In this role, she will lead efforts to enhance collaborative marketing, supply chain and logistics initiatives with the wholesaler's customers and vendor partners. Moore joined C&S in 1992 as an associate buyer and rose through the ranks. In 1999, she was named vice president of merchandising, marketing and trade relations.

BROADER JOINS MICHAELS CRAFT CHAIN

IRVING, Texas — Shelley Broader, the longtime Delhaize executive who recently announced plans to leave as chief executive officer of Sweetbay Supermarkets, is joining Michaels Stores here as president and chief operating officer effective June 23, the craft retailer said. Broader, who joined Delhaize's Hannaford Bros. in 1991, oversaw the conversion of Kash n' Karry to the Sweetbay format during the last four years. At Michaels, she will report to Safeway veteran Brian Cornell, who joined Michaels as CEO last year. Michaels operates 940 Michaels stores in the U.S. and Canada, and 164 Aaron Brothers stores.
