After several years as a biennial show, SIAL Montreal is becoming an annual event. The giant international food expo will include three areas of interest to North American wellness retailers when it's held April 23-25. One is the Trends & Innovations Area, a section imported from SIAL's companion shows in Paris and China. Here, food products launched since April 2007 and new products debuting at the show will be featured; many are healthful, according to organizers.

In keeping with the ongoing interest in whole health, 2008 also marks the return of Agora Nutrition to SIAL Montreal. The name agora, derived from the Greek word “to gather,” is a series of conferences and roundtable discussions about current issues in the health and nutrition segment. Food manufacturers, food distributors, restaurant professionals and health professionals will be able to meet, exchange ideas and gain tangible nutrition-related information.

A third area of interest relates directly to the benefits of particular foods, in this case, olive oil. SIAL Montreal will again host the Olive d'Or, an international extra virgin olive oil competition and showcase, overseen by International Olive Oil Council. SIAL Montreal 2008 attendees will have the opportunity to sample the contestants' product offerings, give their feedback and request information from producers in the Olive d'Or area of the show floor.
