ALEXANDRIA, Va. — National Association of Chain Drug Stores, in a letter to Jack E. Fincham last week, designated him one of its “Community Pharmacy Great Communicators” based on comments he has made in the American Journal of Pharmaceutical Education that NACDS hopes will encourage academia's participation on pressing public policy issues. Fincham, a faculty member at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and associate editor of the publication, wrote: “Administrators at our universities and within our collective colleges and schools of pharmacy need to invest in the continuing viability of community pharmacy. These leaders within our universities need to be as conversant with the [cost of dispensing] and [General Accountability Office] studies as they are with the National Institutes of Health or National Science Foundation reports that encompass research domains and basic science focus areas.” In the letter, NACDS president and chief executive officer Steven C. Anderson wrote, “As you know, we are pursuing at this very time a legislative and/or legal remedy to the unacceptable Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services rule regarding pharmacy Medicaid reimbursement. It indeed is essential for pharmacy academia to be informed and engaged on issues like this one.”
