HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. — Kmart Pharmacy here is expanding its generic drug program. Kmart began the program, which offers customers a 90-day supply of covered medications for $15, in May 2006, four months before Wal-Mart Stores, Bentonville, Ark., announced its plan to offer a 30-day supply of covered generic drugs for $4. As of yesterday, Kmart added 70 new generic medications, including 17 different formulations of generic prescription prenatal vitamins to the program. The plan offers several medications not currently offered by many other generic programs, including sertraline for treating depression and simvastatin for high cholesterol, the company said. "At Kmart Pharmacy we strive to provide health care solutions that improve our customers' quality of life at an exceptional value," said Mark Doerr, vice president of Kmart Pharmacy.
