Kroger Earnings Expected to Rise

Analysts expect higher profit for Kroger when the company reports its third quarter results on Thursday, December 5, 2013. The consensus estimate is calling for profit of 53 cents a share, reflecting a rise from 46 cents per share a year ago.

The consensus estimate is up from three months ago when it was 51 cents, but hasn't changed over the past month. Analysts are expecting earnings of $2.80 per share for the fiscal year. Revenue is projected to eclipse the year-earlier total of $21.81 billion by 4%, finishing at $22.77 billion for the quarter. For the year, revenue is projected to come in at $98.97 billion.

Revenue rose for the past two quarters in a row. In the second quarter, revenue increased 4% to $22.72 billion from the year earlier quarter. In the first quarter, the figure rose 3%.

The majority of analysts (55%) rate Kroger as a buy. This compares favorably to the analyst ratings of nine similar companies, which average 39% buys.
