After a test launch at Kroger’s Carmel location, the grocery chain announced Tuesday it is offering online ordering at seven additional Indianapolis-area locations by the end of September.

In the new feature, customers can order groceries at www.kroger.com/onlineshopping and select a pickup time in a one-hour window at a specific location.

An associate will then pull the groceries off the shelves and load them into a waiting vehicle.

The Cincinnati chain tested the service at the Carmel location at Carmel Drive and Rangeline Road Aug. 9 before expanding it to other area stores.

In addition to the Carmel store, the service will be available at:

■ 3100 Meridian Park Drive, Greenwood, by end of August.

■ 14800 Hazel Dell Crossing, Noblesville, by mid-September.

■ 150 W. 161st St., Westfield, by mid-September.

■ 5810 E. 71st St., Indianapolis, by mid-September.

■ 8745 S. Emerson Ave., Indianapolis, by mid-September.

■ 7272 Fishers Crossing, Fishers, by end of September.

■ 7108 N. Ind. 267, Avon, by end of September.

Kroger charges an extra $4.95 for online orders, but the fee is waived for each customer’s first three orders.

Central Division president Jeff Burt said in a press release that the company is adding several hundred jobs to support the online ordering program.

“Kroger has been testing online ordering in Cincinnati since November 2014 and we have received strong praise from customers,” Burt said in a statement. “Our local test in Carmel was very positive and, as a result, we are pleased to expand this opportunity to additional central Indiana stores and customers.”
