Kroger warns of bogus $100 Facebook coupon

It turns out not everything on Facebook is true.

A coupon being shared on Facebook won’t allow you to get free groceries worth $100 at Kroger if you spend $110 in one purchase.

It’s fake, a post on Kroger’s Facebook page stated.

Kroger is working with Facebook to block the post. What’s being shared on Facebook looks like a real coupon and has a link that often says, “Happy Father’s Day! Get your $100 Kroger coupon.”

Kroger recommended in its post not to engage with any of these websites or share any personal information.

Representatives with Kroger were not immediately available for comment on whether the coupon contains malware or what other type of scam it might be.

It’s not the first time Kroger or other grocers have been hit with this scam. A Dec. 23, 2013, post on Kroger’s Facebook page warned of a fake “$250 Kroger gift card giveaway.”

According to urban legends website Snopes.com, Costco has been hit on Facebook over the past several years with $1,000, $500 and $200 gift card giveaways that lead the customer to a website that asks for personal information.
