DALLAS — 7-Eleven has begun testing sales of whole roasted chickens at some of its downtown Chicago stores, according to a report in the Chicago Sun-Times. The chickens currently retail for $7.99 each.

"It's to see if we can capitalize on home meal replacement," Carole Davidson, senior vice president of strategic planning for the convenience store chain, told the paper.

The company spent much of the past decade enhancing its reputation for coffee and grab-and-go foods, primarily for breakfast and lunch. The new line of chickens joins a selection of refrigerated pastas as options for dinner.
