AG New England Posts Sales Gains

Associated Grocers of New England said Thursday that sales for the most recent year were up 6.5%, to $362 million, an all-time high for the retailer-owned cooperative.

PEMBROKE, N.H. — Associated Grocers of New England said Thursday that sales for the most recent year were up 6.5%, to $362 million, an all-time high for the retailer-owned cooperative.

Returns to members for the year increased 13.5%, to about $4,24 million.

Mike Bourgoine, president and chief executive officer, cited the addition of new customers and increased purchases by existing retail customers. Last year's acquisition of Manchester Wholesale Distributors generated increased sales to convenience retailers and the expansion of the company’s Associated Convenience Grocers division.

The company also credited improvements in productivity, product handling and overall safety at the Distribution Center, tight control over operational expenses, and the success of AG Supermarkets, the company's corporate store subsidiary, which operates Harvest Market stores in Bedford, Hollis and Wolfeboro, N.H., and Vista Foods in Laconia, N.H., and Newport, Vt.
