Amazon Eyes Grocery Offering in U.K.: Report

Amazon.com is planning to launch a dry-grocery offering in the U.K., according to reports on Friday.

SEATTLE — Amazon.com here is planning to launch a dry-grocery offering in the U.K., according to reports on Friday.

The online retailer began offering a selection of 10,000 grocery SKUs in the U.S. in 2006. It has since expanded that selection of dry grocery items, and, in 2007, began a limited test of perishables near its headquarters here.

According the British newspaper reports, the offering would go likely go online sometime this year. Tesco.com is currently the biggest player in online grocery.

An Amazon.com spokesman could not be reached for comment.
