Amigos to Focus on Kids Rather Than Cinco De Mayo

LUBBOCK, Texas — Instead of hosting Cinco de Mayo celebrations this year, United Supermarkets’ Amigos Hispanic format stores have decided to host kids’ day events in two of its locations.

“We’re doing this as an alternative to the traditional Cinco de Mayo celebration because there are usually so many other activities going on that day,” United spokesman Eddie Owens told SN.

Kids Day celebrations will take place Thursday at an Amigos store here and at its Plainview, Texas, location. Scheduled for 3 to 7 p.m., the Lubbock event will feature the Coca-Cola Fun Trailer with two inflatable games, the Lubbock Police Department will be giving away fingerprinting kits and stickers, Cool Smiles Dentistry will be doing screenings, and Blue Bell will give away free ice cream.

The Plainview event will take place from 3 to 6 p.m. and include free Blue Bell ice cream, free books from Scholastic and a Bounce Hall.
