Associated Food Stores Defines Accountability for Recall Communications

PHOENIX — Associated Food Stores, a grocery cooperative wholesaler based in Salt Lake City, has established over the past 18 months “direct accountability” for communicating product recall alerts, for both individuals at the wholesaler who send out alerts and individuals at independent retail stores who receive them.

“We’ve closed the communications loop by better defining accountability at the distribution and retail points,” said Craig McPhee, executive director, distribution, for Associated Food Stores.

Recall messages are sent via Associated’s StoreLink Web page, via email, and — over the past year — via text messages, said McPhee, who participated in a panel discussion Monday at the Supply Chain Conference here, sponsored by the FMI-GMA Trading Partner Alliance.
