Ban Would Have Wider Implications: Mason

LAS VEGAS — Tim Mason, the chief executive officer of Fresh & Easy Neighborhood Market, El Segundo, Calif., thanked the California Grocers Association for its efforts to defeat a proposal to ban alcohol sales through self-checkouts.

Speaking Tuesday at CGA's annual strategic conference here, Mason said the proposal "has been directed at our business, but has implications across the industry. It is a solution in search of a problem."

The bill is on the desk of California Gov. Brown, waiting for his approval or veto, "and we all hope good sense prevails," Mason said.
