Bid Made for Some Bruno’s Stores

An unnamed supermarket operator recruited by the union representing workers at Bruno’s stores has made an offer to acquire some of the stores in the chain, according to a briefing filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court here Wednesday.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An unnamed supermarket operator recruited by the union representing workers at Bruno’s stores here has made an offer to acquire some of the stores in the chain, according to a briefing filed in U.S. Bankruptcy Court here Wednesday.

The briefing, filed by attorneys for the United Food and Commercial Workers union, did not identify the bidder, price or the number of stores in the offer. It said the bidder anticipated hiring current Bruno’s employees under a new union contract and advised against rejection of the current collective bargaining agreement sought by Bruno’s, saying it would be a disruption.
