SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Four of the seven former A&P stores in Connecticut sold to Big Y Foods will reopen next month under the Big Y World Class Markets banner, Big Y said Friday.
The retailer said stores in West Hartford and Branford would reopen Nov. 5 and stores in Mystic and Old Lime would reopen Nov. 11. Those stores would briefly close for remodeling and remerchandising upon the acquisition’s closing date of Nov. 1.
Big Y said it was working with the Hartford Kashrut Commission and suppliers to keep the Kosher departments in the West West Hartford store. The company added that it was developing a discount banner to occupy an additional acquired store in Middletown, and was working with its supplier, Bozzuto’s Inc., on finding independent retailers to operate the remaining stores in Naugatuck and East Haven.
The discount store in Middletown is expected to open early next year, Big Y said. Big Y announced the purchase of the seven former A&P Super Foodmart stores last month.
