SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — Members of Big Y’s fee-based loyalty program have collectively saved over $6 million since its inception last April, with some reporting having quickly recouped the $20 membership fee.

Big Y is promoting its Silver Savings Club by posting testimonials on Bigy.com. “I joined this spring and have already saved $215 this year,” said Cherry from Walpole, Mass.

Silver Savings Club members get automatic discounts on “hundreds” of additional food items each week. They also save on gasoline at more than 70 participating fuel stations, get discounts on movie tickets purchased at Big Y’s 62 stores and can take advantage of exclusive offers at local restaurants.

Another perk is automatic savings on items that are discounted under the Express Rewards silver coin program. Non-members have to redeem earned currency for these deals, but Silver Savings Club members do not.
