SALISBURY, N.C. — Bottom Dollar Food, the fast-growing “soft discounter” owned by Delhaize America here, has opened its first store in the city of Philadelphia.

The 17,000-square-foot store, offering more than 6,800 items, is located on Broad St. in the Olney section of the city.

“While we have opened 18 stores in the greater metropolitan area, this is our first store in the heart of Philadelphia, and we are truly ecstatic,” Meg Ham, president of Bottom Dollar Food, said in a statement.

Bottom Dollar opened its first store in High Point, N.C., in 2005. Since then, the banner has grown to 46 stores in North Carolina, Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
