Brackett Will Leave GMA

The Grocery Manufacturers Association’s senior vice president for scientific and regulatory affairs and chief science officer, Robert Brackett plans to leave the association, he announced here Thursday.

WASHINGTON — The Grocery Manufacturers Association’s senior vice president for scientific and regulatory affairs and chief science officer, Robert Brackett plans to leave the association, he announced here Thursday.

He will remain with GMA during 2010 to ensure a smooth transition. A search for his successor is underway.

“Recognized as a leader in food safety, Dr. Brackett came to GMA at a critical time for the association and has had an immeasurable impact,” said Pam Bailey, GMA president and chief executive officer, in a statement. “He initiated the GMA Science Institute, helped to modernize the association’s scientific capabilities and services, and his advice and counsel with regard to GMA’s food safety initiative has been invaluable. Identifying a successor for Bob Brackett will not be an easy task.”

Brackett plans to “pursue the next professional challenge of my career,” he said in a statement.
