TYLER, Texas — Tim King, executive vice president and chief financial officer at Brookshire Grocery Co. here, died Wednesday, March 3, after a brief illness, the company said.
Born in 1961, King first joined Brookshire Grocery, a privately held chain, at the age of 16 as a part-time warehouse worker while in high school. He continued to work for Brookshire through his graduation from college in 1984.
After college, King worked at accounting firm Squyres, Johnson, Squyres & Co. for five years before becoming a certified public accountant in 1989 and then joining Brookshire again as a financial accountant in 1990. He had worked in a series of financial positions of increasing responsibility at the chain during the last 20 years.
As EVP and CFO, King oversaw all financial aspects of the company, including accounting, treasury, legal and risk management areas. In recent years he was instrumental in preparing Brookshire for transitions to category management and SAP business processes and technology, the company said.
He also served on the board of directors for Brookshire and was affiliated with the Texas Retailers Association and Food Marketing Institute, in addition to accounting-related associations.
King is survived by his wife of 23 years, Lisa, and his sons, Tucker and Tanner.
