BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Bruno’s Supermarkets has said it is closing 22 of its 40 in-store pharmacies, citing weak performance over multiple years, according to media reports. The closings will affect Bruno’s and Food World stores in Alabama and the Florida Panhandle. The pharmacy inventories and prescription files will be sold to CVS/pharmacy, Woonsocket, R.I. "We are closing these pharmacies because of their consistently low performance over the last several years and the lack of prospect for turning them around," Kent Moore, chief executive officer, was quoted as saying. "The remaining Bruno's and Food World pharmacies, which are profitable and growing, will continue to operate normally and will be part of our energetic and enthusiastic plans for growth."
