Bruno’s to Seek 10 Store Closures: Report

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Bruno’s Supermarkets is expected to file a motion calling for the closure of 10 underperforming stores as part of its bankruptcy proceedings, according to reports from the retailer’s first day in federal bankruptcy court Friday.

Bruno’s, which filed for Chapter 11 protection last week also on Friday had a litany of first-day motions approved by the court, including motions authorizing the retention of professional firms, and the payment of pre-petition wages and worker benefits.

The Birmingham News reported that an attorney for Bruno’s told the judge the company expected to file a motion calling for the closure of 10 of its 66 stores.
