LAS VEGAS — Former President George W. Bush said his prescription for healing the economy would be to cut taxes for small businesses "like so many of you grocers, to make sure the people who create jobs have money to expand their business."
Speaking at the opening general session of the National Grocers Association convention here Monday night, Bush said most small-business owners pay taxes based on their own individual incomes, "so raising taxes on business owners won't create jobs, but cutting taxes will."
Asked who is likely to be the next Republican presidential candidate, Bush said 2012 is still too far away to make predictions, adding, however, that he believes his brother Jeb would be a good choice.
