PROVO, Utah — Buy Low Markets, a Southern California-based independent with three stores there and one in Las Vegas, has opened its fifth store here, in an affluent area adjacent to Brigham Young University.
“We look for good places to operate, and my brother liked Las Vegas and I liked the Salt Lake City area," Moe Vazin, one of Buy Low's co-owners, told SN yesterday. His partner is his brother Paul Vazin. Paul Vazin and his brother-in-law, Darioush Khaledi, are also partners in K.V. Mart, Carson, Calif., which operates the Top Valu chain in the Los Angeles area.
Buy Low stores range from 20,000 square feet to 45,000 square feet in Southern California, with a 50,000-square-foot store in Las Vegas and the new 65,000-square-foot store here, with scratch bakeries and fresh food courts. Although all stores offer low prices, they serve different demographics at each location, ranging from low-income ethnic customers to an affluent and student base here.
Vazin said he anticipates the store here will generate annual volume of about $20 million-plus, with 40% of sales coming from produce and meat.
