TORONTO — Sweet Potato, a one-store health food outlet here, has begun testing a digital barcode device from Ecrio, Cupertino, Calif., that consumers can use to download coupons from a PC and then redeem them at the POS, according to Dave Beebe, director of product marketing at Ecrio.
The retailer is handing out the small devices to shoppers, pre-loaded with coupons they can redeem at the POS. Coupons on the device include those from Kettle Potato Chips and Neal Bros. salsa and chips, said Beebe, who spoke to SN yesterday at the National Retail Federation show in New York.
Consumers redeem the coupons by aiming the device at the checkout scanner and pressing a button. The device can also be used for loyalty programs and gift cards.
