BARCELONA, Spain — Fresh retailer Carrefour was recognized as having the top European retail food brand by Interbrand at the World Retail Congress here last week. The Carrefour store brand was No. 2 overall in Europe, behind H&M. “After the initiatives launched in 2005 to position the brand at the heart of our customer relationship and commercial model, Carrefour’s own label is now playing the role of a true brand,” said Jose Luis Duran, Carrefour’s chief executive officer. “We have only begun to capitalize on its strengths.”
