SAN ANTONIO — H-E-B's Central Market will give shoppers a taste of South America next month when it runs a two-week celebration of food and beverages from Argentina.

Scheduled to run May 12-25, the “Passport to Argentina” event will feature an array of dinners and tastings at Central Market cooking schools.

“Argentina’s most celebrated chefs and winemakers will share what makes Argentina one of the top wine and food destinations in the world,” Central Market says in promotional materials.

Among those scheduled to appear are Narda Lepes, TV Host on “E! Gourmet,” who will discuss Argentine traditions; and Laura Catena, owner of Luca Wines in Argentina, who will host a 2½-hour dinner prepared by Central Market’s cooking school staff and paired with Luca chardonnay, malbec, pinot and her flagship wine, Nico.

Another class will focus on traditional Argentine sauces. “Roll up your sleeves and get ready to chop, whisk and blend these delicious accompaniments to traditional Argentine dishes,” according to Central Market. These include Chimichurri (olive oil, vinegar, parsley and pepper sauce); Salsa Golf, a flavored mayonnaise served with salads, fish and shellfish; and Salsa Criolla, traditionally served with roasted or grilled meats.
